NIST has opened a new ICT risk-governance draft for public comment.
Published October 22, SP 800-221 Revision 1 connects information and communications technology risk management with enterprise risk decisions and CSF 2.0’s Govern function. It emphasizes using ICT risk registers to inform the enterprise risk profile.
For federal technology teams and suppliers, a useful review question is whether system-level findings reach leaders in terms they can act on: mission impact, financial exposure and reputation.
Consider whether your risk records clearly identify ownership, communicate impact and support decisions about competing priorities. Those are review questions, not new requirements announced here.
This is an initial public draft, not final guidance. Comments are due December 7, 2026, at 11:59 p.m. EST.
